Does your child have learning difficulties? Watch out! Vision therapy may be the key.

Do you notice your little one struggling at school? Does he or she struggle with reading, get distracted, or seem to find homework overwhelming? Sometimes, learning disabilities in children are more related to vision than we think. And vision therapy can make a big difference!

Eyes that don't work as a team: an obstacle to learning

Many elementary school children struggle with reading , whether at the beginning or later on. Did you know this can be because their eyes don't move properly, have difficulty focusing, or don't work well together? It's as if they have a slight visual "mismatch" that makes it difficult for them to focus on letters and understand what they're reading!

Vision therapy: training for your eyes

That's why it's incredibly important to thoroughly screen the vision of children with learning difficulties . And vision therapy can be a huge help! Think of it as special training for your eyes. It teaches them to work better together, focus correctly, and move in the right way to read and learn effortlessly.

A study confirms: vision therapy works!

A 2018 study showed that vision therapy actually helps children with learning disabilities who also have vision difficulties. Many of them improved dramatically in school after the therapy!

In this study, many children with learning disabilities were found to have "odds and ends" with their binocular vision (how the two eyes work together) and their ability to focus. After a vision therapy program, their vision improved dramatically!

Check your child's eyesight: it could be the solution!

So, if you notice your child is struggling with learning , don't hesitate to take them to a pediatric optometrist for a complete checkup. Vision therapy could be the missing piece to help them enjoy learning and thrive in school!
