Visuo-cognition

Visual information processing

The information our eyes receive is interpreted and understood at the brain level.

Our brain has the ability to process information that reaches us through the visual pathway. This allows us to interpret, represent, and form models that represent our reality. Poor information processing can cause the following symptoms:

  • Problems giving or receiving orders
  • Difficulties with reading and math
  • Difficulties with space-time
  • Reasoning and problem solving
  • Immature behavior
  • Lack of confidence, low self-esteem

At AVANCE VISUAL, we don't aim for patients to memorize exercises. Rather, through them and their cognition, they can form new patterns that allow them to develop further at all levels.

To develop schemata, that is, to learn, a child must be physiologically ready, have prior experiences, and a desire to engage with new experiences. This will enable them to develop different schemata in a given area or activity.

We will work on all of this through training:

  1. mathematical thinking
  2. graphic thinking
  3. visuomotor integration

MATHEMATICAL THINKING

Mathematical thinking is the ability to handle numbers, the concepts of mass, weight, volume and quantities in a logical manner.

To read numbers correctly, it's necessary to know the position or location of the number. It's important to have knowledge of the position value, rather than memorizing it. This way, we can truly understand the value of a number. The same thing happens when we work with quantities in the concepts of fractions, division, multiplication, and so on.

Optometry does this work because they are visual concepts. These symbols must generate an image so we can understand them through visualization.

When there is a lack of good mathematical thinking, we will observe poor performance in mathematics, no matter how much time is devoted to it. Vision Therapy works to help the patient understand the concepts of numbers, addition, fractions, division, multiplication, and so on, so that mathematics is not memorized, but rather understood as a concept.

GRAPHIC THINKING

To write correctly, eye movements must be highly coordinated with the movements of the arm, body, and fingers.

Graphic thinking involves a correct integration of movement and body awareness, primitive and postural reflexes, digital discriminative movement, sensorimotor control, and visual thinking.

Visual therapy will work on graphic control, digital discrimination movements, and pre-writing control, thus achieving effective hand-eye coordination.

VISUAL MOTOR INTEGRATION

Visuomotor integration is the synchronization of the eye with the rest of the body.

That is, our vision guides our body movements, making them exact and precise.

It is closely related to Binocularity and is essential for fine motor skills such as writing, cutting, coloring, copying... and sports such as running, hitting, shooting baskets, kicking...

Poor visuomotor integration can cause the following symptoms:

Poor writing
Poor fine motor skills
Poor athletic performance

Vision Therapy improves this skill through gross and fine motor exercises, improving body and finger coordination.

Specifically, the clamp, essential in any precision manual activity.
