Rhythmic Movement Therapy - RMT

Rhythmic Movement Therapy (RMT)

Rhythmic Movement Therapy consists of a series of physical and rhythmic exercises that allow us to properly integrate the primitive reflexes that remain active.

Primitive reflexes are innate involuntary movements of the baby that are necessary for proper neurological development.

These movements should have a limited lifespan and then give way to postural reflexes, which are movements controlled by higher parts of the brain. If primitive reflexes remain active, there will be a weakness or cerebral immaturity that will affect not only gross or fine motor skills, but also sensory and cognitive perception.

Rhythmic movement therapy consists of a series of exercises that enable the integration of primitive reflexes.

Unintegrated primitive reflexes can cause movement disorders, inability to maintain a posture comfortably for a period of time, constant movement, motor clumsiness, exaggerated responses to environmental stimuli, frequent fatigue, behavioral problems resulting from motor restlessness, attention deficit, and poor visual-motor integration.

The non-integration of a reflex means that certain processes are carried out through continuous and conscious effort (leading to exhaustion) and not automatically.
